Newsletter – 11th May 2022

Dear All,

We’re really pleased to see the number of WFA participants continue to grow.  If you’ve not yet booked a slot for this week, please email Jennifer@wfaoxford.org no later than midday on Thursday.

Please also get your bookings in early for 1 July (see below). Many of our participants come to the 10am and 11am slots so if you’d like a quieter session, with a greater choice of cycles and more 1-to-1 help, we recommend you book for the midday session.  And in the lead up to Bike Week (6-12 June), we will be offering the 12pm slot free of charge from now until Friday 10 June to encourage more people to try cycling (subject to availability).

Our e-assist cycles continue to be popular.  We’ve recently acquired an e-trike (thanks to Bruce and Sticky for collecting it from London) so come and try it out!  We’ve ordered a Swytch kit so we can add e-assist to another trike (although this may not arrive for a few months).

Bike Oxford is happening in July and they are helping us run a special inclusive event during our session on Friday 1 July. As announced on their website: “We are also very excited to announce that Wheels for All Oxford and Iconic Cycling will be working in partnership to ensure the Bike Oxford weekend will be a fully inclusive sportive event, with a Wheels for All Bike Oxford event on Friday 1st July 2022 at the Horspath Athletics track. With their extensive range of adapted cycles, tandems, side-by-sides, tricycles, recumbent bikes and even a wheelchair transporter, Wheels for All Oxford have something for everyone. To find out more visit the Wheels for All Oxford website and to book a place please email enquiries@wfaoxford.org
We are still developing ideas for this but there will be medals for everyone achieving their own personal goal and we aim to provide some catering.  Members of the Cowley Road Condors will also be helping to ensure we have plenty of volunteers on hand, eg for piloting tandems.  We want to give our regular participants priority so please ensure you’ve booked your slot for 1 July.

Many people are more relaxed about Covid but Government guidelines continue to advise that “it is particularly important that a person with symptoms of a respiratory infection, such as COVID-19, avoids close contact with people whose immune system means that they are at higher risk of serious illness. If a person has tested positive for COVID-19 they should avoid those people who are at higher risk of serious illness for a 10-day period.”  Many of our participants are vulnerable, so please do not attend a WFA session if you think you might be infected or if you have had recent close contact with someone, eg in your household, who has tested positive or has any cold-like symptoms. Hand sanitiser is provided on the reception desk and surface cleaner on the table by the entrance to the track.  Please help yourself to wipe down bikes before/after use if our volunteers are busy with other participants.  Cleaning materials are also provided near the toilet.

We look forward to seeing many of you on Friday.
